This morning Miriam and Susanna were sleeping and Ella Grace and I were the only ones up. The Lord gave me an opportunity to share a few things with her, especially about waking up with bad dreams. We read the story of Daniel. We talked about God sending an angel to shut the mouths of the lions. I told her that God sends his helpers to surround her bed at night as He did with Daniel. We talked about how God is bigger than the angels and they have to listen to Him and reminded her how HE is there with her to help her and protect her and to show her how to put her trust in Him. I also reminded her of how excited she was the other day that she did something on her own. She said, “I learned how to go in the house all by myself to look for Daddy.” I encouraged her that learning to fall back to sleep on her own is something God will do for her if she asks for His help.
Then I told her that I was glad we had time to talk and pray about her struggle and that we are to rejoice in times such as these. I prayed that she would choose to follow God’s ways and trust Him, not follow her own ways. I told her that Jesus came to save us from ourselves ( sins) and that one day she would hopefully choose to follow Him. Here are two questions that followed:
“Oh, like Kinsley became a Christian?” ( our 7 year old neighbor became a Christian this summer and we have been praying for her.)
“When do I do it?”
Before I could get an answer out.. she said, “But I like to follow my own ways.” And then went back to coloring.
One day soon she will understand. God is changing her little heart.( and Miriam's as well!) Until then, I will continue talking, teaching, pointing to and showing them Jesus Christ. May I continue....speaking the truth in love, (so that they) will in all things grow up into Him who is the Head, that is, Christ. Ephesians 4:15
Oh yeah, and I pray that I will not enjoy following my own ways, either.
