Helping Out God?

Susanna, our youngest, is a mover and a shaker. She is 19 months and rarely sits still. She is playful, busy and a very happy-natured little one. One of her favorite words is "touch."

Touch Mama shiwt.( shirt)
Touch bankie.( blanket)
Touch haiw. ( hair)
Touch meee-alk (milk)
Touch dit. ( dirt)

She always has her little hands in something. She leaves a trail wherever she goes.

“Susanna, your hands do not go in there.” ( the peanut butter jar as I am fixing sandwiches) “or in your hair.” ( with the peanut butter on them!)

“What a mess” I say.

“Haaaaalp.”

“Oh, you want to help. I see. Thank you, darling.”

I got to thinking about how I am a lot like this. I want to put my hands in what God is doing or teaching me. I want to “help” Him by telling Him what I think is best. He doesn’t need my help. He is God. He is sovereign and has all things planned in a way to bring Him the most glory. When I do put my little hands in what He is busy doing, it’s usually because I am resisting or whining about my circumstances sweetly brought on by His loving hand, and ultimately, it ends up being similar to Susanna’s “help.” One big ole mess. As long I am on the Potter’s wheel, I can trust Him to do with me whatever pleases Him and without my help.

It’s trusting without wavering.
It’s that steadfast, rock- solid faith that does not fail or fall .
It’s standing firm and totally unshakable in the ONE Who is faithful and trustworthy…. Always.

Job 42:2
"I know that you can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted.

Jeremiah 18:3,4
So I went down to the potter's house, and I saw him working at the wheel. But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.

Romans 4:20
Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God

Make me totally pliable, Lord. Build and strengthen my faith in You alone.
