Good Advice or Godly Wisdom?

Yesterday I had the blessing to go to a bible study at my friend Lindsay's home led by my friend Michelle and in doing so met some new friends. It's on parenting- the best child rearing book I have read. One that truly encourages and does not leave me feeling like a complete failure in my efforts to point my children to Christ. It brings such hope. The study is written by Michelle's mom, Debi Pryde.

Precept Upon Precept ( titus 2 series- book 3)
Here is what you will find on her website www.debipryde.com about it:

"Is there really a secret ingredient to parenting? Debi answers this question and addresses other key issues such as loving and understanding your children, disciplining and motivating your children, preventing and dealing with rebellious children, and much more. Precept Upon Precept encourages parents to uncover our heavenly Father’s parenting methods—His love, understanding, disciplining, motivating, and teaching of His own children."

I encourage you to get a copy!

Something we discussed yesterday that really has me thinking is the difference between good advice from others versus godly wisdom. I so often want the advice of others more than I want to dig and search for the wisdom God gives. Yes, I want the wisdom but I don't always want to work hard to find it. So I settle. I want to hear His words and obey them... put them into practice. It's very easy to fall into the trap of relying on our own limited understanding, one that does not crave, hunger, thirst, seek, beg for His mind, His ways, His wisdom. It really does make sense why I feel anxious and weary.... becasue I am seeking what I THINK is true and good and not KNOWING FOR SURE what the Word of God tells me. As I am reminded of the song I sing every night to Susanna:

Jesus loves me this I know
FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO

Everything I need- every answer- is there. In His Word. Let the digging begin.

Matthew 7:24-27
Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."
