It's so ugly

I shared yesterday about the book Hinds’ Feet on High Places that we are loving. I find myself thinking about bits of it off and on all day. Today we read about the character Pride and what he is like. I LOVED how the author described it today in terms my girls could understand and ummm, that I could understand and consider in my own life.

“Pride is the thing in us that wants to do what we want- not what God wants. Pride says, “I don’t need God or anyone else.”  Pride says, “Me, me, me, me.” Pride worries about what other people think more than what God thinks. The opposite of pride is humility.  Humility says, “ I need God’s  help.”

YUCK! It’s so ugly. It creeps in. It hangs around. It’s a dark cloud waiting to storm on our peaceful places.  It’s masks itself as self-sufficiency  and self-loathing.  It fills our eyes, ears, and heart. It says it goes before a fall.

“But, when I walk with Jesus I stand both straight and tall. “ ( Hannah Hurnard- author)

Remove pride, Lord. Anywhere I have taken a step without You, forgive me. Thank You for always being near and carrying me, even in the moments when I have fallen.
