Potatoes

My kids argue. Often. Yes, they love one another but sometimes it seems that they do not. Recently, we went to the library and ended up coming home with a random book that kept getting pushed to the bottom of the basket. I suppose it was there until just the right time to read it.

One morning, in desperation for peace to reign and enemies to become friends,  I pulled the book out and we started reading. It’s called Potatoes, Potatoes by Anita Lobel.  http://www.amazon.com/Potatoes-Anita-Lobel/dp/0060518170

“… a powerful story of two brothers who become enemies at war, and their wise mother  whose cleverness turns fighting into peace.”

As I read the book, a hush fell over the room, the girls were still, and hearts turned soft. Then we got two potatoes and drew faces ( happy, sad) and decided when someone needs to make peace and be humble ( or “Stop the war”) a potato is given to the offending party  and we say “Potatoes, Potatoes” and end the war.  No one can say it without laughing, it’s so silly.

Never thought peace could come in the form of potatoes. But when the Lord is in it, He uses anything.
