Encouragement for mothers by mothers
Inspiring Quotes on mothering that touched my soul today-- all compiled by mothers. Loved these words of encouragement!
( *these were given to me by a sweet lady at my church named Lisa Donnovan)
from Elisabeth Elliot’s The Shaping of a Christian Family
“God knows the feelings of discouragement, inadequacy, and failure which conscientious parents feel. But it was His idea to make them parents and to give them this particular set of children. He knew they would not do a perfect job. He is Father to the parents, and promises every kind of help they need. He stands beside them in every situation, ready to give wisdom as needed and grace to help in time of need if only they will turn to Him and ask for it.” p. 146
“The story is told of three women washing clothes. A passerby asked each what she was doing.
“Washing clothes” was the first answer.
“A bit of household drudgery” was the second.
“I’m mothering three young children who some day will fill important and useful spheres in life, and wash-day is a part of my grand task in caring for these souls who shall live forever” was the third.” p. 157
...My children are my most important guest. I must treat them with dignity and respect. I must guard myself from becoming so embroiled in the trivialities of daily maintenance that I fail to enjoy the pleasure of their company.
-Miriam Huffman Rockness
The Mission of Motherhood:
Touching Your Child’s Heart for Eternity
By Sally Clarkson
“As my children see me in the deep waters of life, being tested to my core and still holding on to my Lord and choosing to believe the best, this observation will prepare them for their own trials, which will surely come. They will know that he will guide and forgive them as they lead an imperfect but devoted life before a loving Father who has always met their mother’s needs!”
p. 88
“The purpose of training our children is not to force them to do what we want. The purpose is not to produce guilt of shame but to free our children to enjoy the fruit of mature living. This means that training should always be exercised in gentleness, along with love and patience.”
p. 92
“…deep relationships, especially with children, rarely happen on a predictable schedule.”
p. 125
“Hebrews 11:6 goes on to say that “without faith it is impossible to please [God], for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.” My hope is in the unchanging character of God—that indeed he will reward my faith efforts to obey him, trusting that his way is indeed the best way. His Spirit will accomplish what concerns me and my children. He himself will build both them and me into all we need to know and be.”
