This morning we were talking about what it means to bear one another's burdens. I was trying to encourage the girls to be sensitive and compassionate to one another, to pray for one another, to build eachother and others up, be kind, be this, be that......No one was interested and then I realized I was in "lecture mode." Of course, they would tune me out.
So, I got on all fours and asked one of the girls to put the giant African Violet pot on my back. It WAS so silly, me walking around like an animal with a heavy flower pot on my back. Susanna joyfully came and took it off my back and I stood up, exclaiming how happy I was to be free from it. Then they took turns putting the burden on and off of one another, mimicking how happy they were to have it lifted.
Lord, may this truth be so present in my life that I will be a burden lifter to those around me and may it be so of my children as well. More of You, less of me, Lord! More others focused and less self focused!
Bear one another's burdens. Galatians 6:2
