Trials and Testing

You know how some weeks and some days are better than others? I agree. This week has been one filled with many trials. Not just for myself but also for my loved ones and friends dear to me. It seems that everywhere I look someone is carrying a huge burden.

True, trials grow us. Yes, we become better people. ( or bitter) Agreed, they build and strengthen us. Indeed, they test us and refine us, even purify us. And no doubt we can either trust the Lord as we go through each of them or we can try to go through them in our own strength. Am I rejoicing and thanking the Lord as I enter my hardships? I KNOW this truth, but God is really helping me to put it into action joyfully as I submit to His will for each trial.

What exactly is a trial? Webster’s defines a trial in these terms: (just a few that stuck out to me in my trials presently)
*the action or process of trying or putting to the proof: TEST
*a test of faith, patience, or stamina through subjection to suffering or temptation
*a source of vexation or annoyance
*a tryout or experiment to test quality, value , or usefulness

But, more importantly, what does God’s Word say? James 2:3-3, 2:12
2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds 3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.
12Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

I pray that every trial I ( we) face we will be useful to God, because it’s about Him. May He be glorified in and through all of my (our) trials and may we utterly and completely depend upon Him.
