A Hat For Ivan

I bought a really cute book for the girls that I wanted to recommend. It's written by Max Lucado. It's called a Hat For Ivan. Here is what it says on the back.

"All the grown-ups in Ivan’s village wear a hat that shows what they love most. Because Ivan’s father is the hat maker, Ivan gets to watch his father create a hat that is perfect for each person. Ivan wonders what kind of hat he will have. Will he be a musician? A baker? A palace guard?

Ivan doesn’t need to worry about his future because his father, the hat maker who loves him most, shows him that there is only one hat—and one life—created just for him."

As I read it, I love telling Ella Grace just how special God made her, like no one else in the world. Then I had to remind myself that same thing. He made me special- unlike any one else- all for His glory. My "strong willed" children were created special by God with gifts and talents and traits that are suited for them. God has woven them into this family, not by accident, but on purpose, for His glory. Seeing this perspective through God's eyes gives me more patience and grace towards my children as well as the constant nudge to ask for wisdom in training them. I must have an open hand, not a clenched fist to what God has planned for their lives (and mine!) May they grow to trust God's plan for their lives and follow Him as their Savior.
